STEP RI was established in 2008 by the University of Rijeka in order to become the premier science and technology hub, to foster cooperation between the Academia and the business sector. STEP RI has defined consulting programs and advising processes for the establishment of start-ups, new product and service development, scaling-up of existing businesses, IPR protection, access to finance, needs assessment and commercialization strategies for SMEs and scientists that want to become entrepreneurs.

STEP RI is a recognized centre for innovative and entrepreneurial support infrastructure and a member of the National network of BSOs (BOND). The team has the adequate qualifications to fulfil all the tasks with high quality standards. STEP RI is delivering market - based management and innovation consulting to large companies that do not fit into criteria for free or subsidized services, but in a smaller scale. Other entrepreneurial support organizations occasionally hire STEP RI experts for lectures and workshops for their users.
